If you’re free Saturday morning, join this crew downtown at the LA Regional Food Bank.
From a writer colleague on a list I’m on:
“I just co-launched a new organization called GiV LA – a social volunteering organization in Los Angeles.
The idea behind it is for people to be able to volunteer and do something good for the community and then go out and do something fun and social as a group afterwards.
Our kick off event will be Saturday, 6/11. We will be volunteering at the LA Regional Food Bank in downtown Los Angeles from 9 a.m. – 12 .p.m and then heading out to a fun nearby spot as a group for mimosas.
Future events planned include habitat for humanity followed by BBQs and Happy Hours, animal shelters, homeless, children charity events, etc…
If anyone has been looking for a means to volunteer, we’d love for you to get involved.
Check us out on www.facebook.com/givla
And if you’re interested in the 6/11 event, register on our events tab and come on out.”
At 8 p.m. Saturday, Ryan McGinness opens SponsorshipREDUX at Shepard and Amanda Fairey’s gallery Subliminal Projects in Echo Park, a series of paintings that revisit his 2003 exploration of corporate sponsorship.
And on Sunday, Maja D’Aoust, the “white witch of Los Angeles,” offers another of her bi-monthly lectures at her magic school at 6 p.m. ($5 donation requested). This Sunday‘s topic is Necromancy. What better way to wrap up a weekend than exploring how to summon the spirits of the dead? Maja is an engaging and unintimidating lecturer, and the (sometimes sycophantic) audience q&a’s afterwards are not to be missed. Nice people; always thought-provoking.
