Tuesday’s Taco – Casa Vega in Sherman Oaks

YUMEstablished in 1956 by Rafael “Ray” Vega, Casa Vega is located on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks.  Dimly lit, with cozy brick walls and exposed wooden beams, the restaurant has a lively bar and is fitted with comfortable booths and padded bar seats.   The waiters here are very efficient and will even bring you drinks while you’re waiting for a table.

Pictured above are two items from the A La Carte section: a crispy chicken taco and a cheese enchilada.  They were delicious!  This is pretty much my standard order from Casa Vega because the portions are large, and I can never eat the beans and rice that come with the meals.  Especially when paired with a yummy mango margarita…

My friend ordered the carnitas burrito, which I tried too, and it was amazing.  We cleaned our plates and chatted over the din – one downside is that it can get pretty loud, especially on a Friday night.   The young woman pictured below is the hostess laughing at a drunken older ‘gentleman’ (I use that term loosely) who told us on our way out that he was hanging with a friend he hadn’t seen in years due to “Obama-fication”.  ??  We walked out before he could explain.

I plan to go back and try out that orange margarita on the Happy Hour menu.
