CHOCOLATE BEAST by San Francisco artist Scott Hove integrates taxidermy teeth, buffalo horns and a confectionary motif, rendered in polyurethane foam. Yum!

The remains of chicks and bunnies– and a flesh-eating chocolate cake which belongs at the wrap party for “Little Shop of Horrors”–make for a surreal art form called “Rogue Taxidermy”. The Rogue Taxidermy 2012 Biennial, curated by Robert Marbury, will be on view at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, 4633 Hollywood Boulevard (between Vermont and Virgil) May 4- 27.

Vegans, animal-lovers, aspiring taxidermists and many others will find themselves in a state of wonder at these creations which modify preserved road-kill with antique watch and clock parts, lamp parts and other hardware, epoxy clay, resin, dollhouse furniture, wax, candy-lips, recycled plush toys and lots of other stuff from the junk drawer.

Artists’ reception Friday, May 4, at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, 8 – 11 pm.  We can’t wait to see the appetizer tray. www.laluzdejesus.com
