Dog Haus Opens Second Location in Pasadena

You would not think Pasadena could be home to another hot dog stand weirder than Slaw Dogs, but Dog Haus biergarten on Green Street has some trippy food. Pictured above is the Grand Slam: Smoked bacon, egg and tater tots on an all-beef skinless hot dog stuffed between two slices of King’s Hawaiian bread. All that’s missing is the Cheerios. You would think the Hawaiian bread would be too sweet, but it’s not. It is one juicy, flavorful, but gargantuan dog, and this semi-professional diner couldn’t even finish it.

Other fun dogs are the Little Leager with haus chili, fritos, diced onions and shredded cheddar, The Chachi with hot pastrami, melted mozzarella, yellow mustard, and pickle chips. For clever points, we like the Scott Baioli.

For make-your-own there are a variety of sausages, including andouille and 3-pepper keilbasa. Toppings run the gamut from curry ketchup to bleu cheese crumbles. For a trippy dessert, try the Sweetie Pie: Sweet potato tots (yes, really), cheddar cheese, brown sugar and butter, then let me know how it is.

I have to say, it was one hell of a dog. I still love you Slaw Dogs, but every once in a while we all need a little bit of the strange.
