Free Pussy Riot!

Local musician, Peaches, has “launched a petition in support of the Russian conceptual art punk activist band Pussy Riot on the social action website Change.org. The petition has acquired over 85,000 signatures in just five days and is available for signature at www.change.org/freepussyriot.”

“In March 2012, Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, three members of Pussy Riot, were taken into custody by Russian authorities for criticizing Putin in a ‘Punk Prayer” performed at an Orthodox church in Moscow. The three members were charged with ‘hooliganism motivated by religious hatred’ and face up to seven years in prison with the verdict being delivered this Friday, August 17th.  On Friday morning at 11:30am CET, www.freepussyriot.org will stage a demonstration in front of the Berlin Russian Embassy and will deliver the petition.

“Peaches has also premiered the video for her new song “Free Pussy Riot.” On Wednesday, August 3rd approximately 400 Pussy Riot supporters joined Peaches in Berlin for an impromptu video shoot. Over 70 people from all over the world who were unable to attend the last minute filming have contributed footage for the clip to show their support.   Included in the new video are The Hives, Marshall Crenshaw, Wayne Kramer (MC5), Bonaparte, Margaret Cho, Dave Hill, Kate Nash, JD Samson (Le Tigre, Men), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), Bun E Carlos (Cheap Trick), Lykke Li, Coco Morier, Miike Snow, Peter Bjorn & John, Deichkind, Scream Club, Roxy Cottontail, Light Asylum, and The Knife.”

One Response to Free Pussy Riot!

  1. David says:

‘Talking Pussy Riot Jail Sentence’ is Michel Montecrossa’s New-Topical-Song in honor
of the Pussy Riot ladies, their freedom love, their art and humanity
which is not only good for Russia but for the people of the whole world.
Michel Montecrossa says about ‘Talking Pussy Riot Jail Sentence’:
“I wrote this song to honor the Pussy Riot ladies for their freedom
love, their art and humanity. They give hope to us – the people of the
world – that a time is near when the people will take care of the need
of the people, when love will rule and not power crazed politos and
    their soulless state machineries.
The Orthodox Church was right when she expressed forgiveness and Mr.
Putin will be right when he wakes up and sets Pussy Riot free.”
