Upcoming: The Taste

This is the weekend foodies wait for all year. On Labor day Weekend, from September 1-3, The LA Times will be presenting The Taste at Paramount Pictures Studios on Melrose. This year 5 events will vy for your attention. Tickets are only $65 per event before September 1st.

Saturday the 1st, “Field to Fork” hosted by Russell Parsons, is for foodies and home cooks. The day will bring you cooking demos by Ray Garcia, David LeFevre (M.B. Post), Roxana Jullapat (Cooks County), Nyesha Arrington (Wilshire), Jason Kim (Forage). Panels and seminars will be “State of the Farmer’s Market,” “How to Taste Wine Like a Master Sommelier,” “Everyday Bordeaux”

On Saturday night, prepare for glamour as “Cocktail Confidential” hits Paramount Pictures Studios. Times Food & Night Life Writer Jessica Gelt & mixologist Julian Cox (Rivera, Playa) host mixology demos by Tricia Alley, and Alex Day plus a mix-off challenge with Jaymee Mandeville (Drago Centro), Nathan Oliver (The Vagrancy Project), Paul Sanguinetti (Ray’s and Stark Bar), Brian Summers (Parish), Marcos Tello (Feed), and Damian Windsor (Roger Room).

On Sunday Evan Kleiman and Jonathan Gold host “Flavors of LA,” Cooking demos will be presented by Susan Feniger (STREET), Ludo Lefebvre (LudoBites), Kris Yenbamroong (NIGHT + MARKET), Ricardo Zarate (Picca). Panels & seminars are titled, “The L.A. Food Scene,” “Authentic Flavors of Mexico,” “Sake 101,” and Cline Cellars.  

Sunday night at “Dinner & Drinks” Times Deputy Food Editor Betty Hallock & “The Beer Chicks,” Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune host cocktail demos by The Beer Chicks, Alie Ward & Georgia Hardstarck (The Cooking Channel), and Tricia Alley.

Monday brings the return of one of the funnest and most kid-friendly events last year, “The Labor Day Picnic with Target.” Hosts are Times Test Kitchen Director Noelle Carter & Zoe Nathan (Huckleberry, Milo & Olive) Cooking demos by Zoe Nathan, Nancy Silverton (Osteria Mozza), and Judy Han (Mendocino Farms) will hold your attention along with Steve Lopez’s Firehouse Cookoff. Panels & seminars are by Thomas Keller (Bouchon, The French Laundry), roundtable with winners of this year’s Battle of the Burgers, “Wine Lists & How They Are Created,” “A Tour of California Appellations.”
