Alex’s Lemonade Ushers in Autumn

It was a sunny day at Culver City Studios for LA Loves Alex’s Lemonade. The only signs of the impending Autumn were the pumpkin pies. Still, we are not quite there yet as tomatoes burst with color and dishes featuring corn were also on the menu.

A number of restaurants, in addition to Pink’s, offered some variety of sausage, perhaps to go with the lemonade/picnic theme. Clams were also a popular item. Perhaps the most on-theme offering was the lemonade pop-tart from Hedy Goldsmith of Miami. The most high-end dish was probably The London’s Summer Corn Pancakes with Butter-Poached Lobster. The most ambitious must have been the avocado soup served in a pristine eggshell. The dish that challenged gourmands was Johnathan Sundstrom’s Truffled Beef Cheek and Sweetbread Croquette.

Wine and cocktails were tempting under the hot sun. I enjoyed a drink madewith tequila and Mexican Coke with a fruity essence from Neal Bodenheimer of New Orleans. Christiaan Rollich from Lucques made an inspired cocktail with Genever Gin and bitters.

It was a fun day for kids and grownups alike, and raised funds to stop childhood cancers. Thanks to all of the chefs, celebrities, organizers and volunteers for a job well done.
