LACMA Presents The Surreal Screen: Cartoons and Collage

This weekend the LA County Museum of Art will be presenting a film exhibition called The Surreal Screen: Cartoons and Collage. The first collection of films, Animating the Subconscious will be presented by animation historian Jerry Beck. Films to be presented include  “studio cartoons from the 1930s to the 1950s that delve into subliminal territories with punch-drunk panache. Works featured will include Salvador Dali’s Destino, Chuck Jones’s Duck Amuck, Disney’s Lullaby Land and much more!” October 19, 7:30 pm

October 20, Collage in Motion screens at 5pm. The program “covers more than sixty years of groundbreaking cinema that shares surrealism’s affinity for working with paper to create vibrant landscapes of the mind.” Films by Robert Breer, Stan Vanderbeek, Jan Lenica, Jodie Mack will be shown. Free admission.
