Orchestre Surreal plays “The Nightmare Before Christmas”

If you’ve already seen The Nightmare Before Christmas enough times in 3D, here’s a different way to kick off the holidays with the Tim Burton classic. Grand Performances presents Elvis Schoenberg’s Orchestre Surréal at California Plaza’s WaterStage on December 14 at 12pm. The local group, which cleverly twists classic standards into wacky, avant-garde creations, will perform its re-interpretation of Danny Elfman’s score.  The event is free and you can RSVP on Facebook.

The 25-musician Orchestre Surréal was founded in 1997 by composer, orchestrator, and conductor, Ross Wright AKA Elvis Schoenberg. The group enjoys stretching the boundaries of genre and artistic expression, deconstructing music “with the wit and whimsy of Spike Jones and the musical complexities of Frank Zappa”.
