“Room 105: The Highs and Lows of Janis Joplin” at Macha Theatre

After selling out its first four weeks, the rock ‘n roll musical Room 105: The Highs and Lows of Janis Joplin, starring Sophie B. Hawkins (of “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover” fame), has extended its run at Macha Theatre in West Hollywood through Dec. 30th.

Aside from the Grammy-nominated Hawkins, the musicians in the show include Ed Roth (keyboards), Daniel Pearson (bass) and Corey Coverstone (drums), led by Grammy winning producer Josh Sklair on guitar. Hawkins provides the right kind of growly vocals on songs like “Piece of My Heart” (at 1:41 in the video above) and “Me and Bobby McGee.” Written and directed by Gigi Gaston, the show “is a humorous, engaging, bittersweet, intimate and honest musical confessional. Janis brings the audience into her world and her life, and teases viewers about aspects of modern day pop culture, of which she is privy.”

Room 105 shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are available at 323-960-1055 or online.
