Putting Citizens United on the Ballot

If you have something to say about the controversial Supreme Court ruling known as Citizens United, here is a chance to be heard: Common Cause wants L.A. voters to use the May 2013 Mayoral Election to vote for a Constitutional amendment to overturn the ruling. Tomorrow (Jan. 16th) at a city council, people can ask for this issue to be put on the ballot.

The council will be at City Hall, beginning at 10am, and you can RSVP with Common Cause here. Their site explains: “Enter through the east side of the building and be prepared to pass through a metal detector and show your ID. You will be going to council chambers, Room 340.”

One Response to Putting Citizens United on the Ballot

  1. Afropix Paula Lauren Gibson says:

I wonder how this turned out. Unfortunately, any Los Angeles Mayoral Election ballot placement would not be effective to overturn Citizens United as it is a federal decision. A US Constitutional Amendment would have to be proposed by a 2/3 vote of the states and ratified by a 3/4 vote of the states.
