Enter the Lottery for the Descendents’ Filmage

One night I was standing at a gig with Tony Lombardo watching some random opening band. Tony turned away and scoffed, “My band plays six notes for every one note this band plays.” That to me, is the Descendents in a nutshell. Pioneers of the under-a-minute song, they were one of the fastest bands on the punk scene, but managed to do it without resorting to thrash. Instead, they had a melodic, pop quality that made their songs easy to sing along to, or to sing to yourself when they got forever stuck in your head. Through their various permutations, line-up changes and eventual metamorphosis into ALL, the Descendents had their own sound that could be imitated, but never matched.

With Filmage, the Descendents finally get the close-up they have been ready for for over 30 years. From the looks of the trailer, it will feature some fantastic footage along with commentary from various band members plus the likes of punk rock luminaries  Mike Watt and Keith Morris. The Story of the Descendents/ALL, directed by Matt Riggle & Deedle LaCour, premieres in Los Angeles Sunday August 25th at 11am at the Art Theater of Long Beach. The catch? You can not buy your way in, not with money and not with Bonus Cups. The interest has been so high, they are holding a lottery to determine who gets these coveted FREE theater seats.
