Where can you go to experience art combined with all things geek?:  Designer Con 2013.  Now in its eighth year founders Ayleen Gaspar and Ben Goretsky have extended the event from one to two days; Saturday November 9th 9 am- 6 pm and Sunday November 10th 9 am – 5 pm.  Both ardent toy and art collectors and toy company owners, Gaspar and Goretsky set out to create an event which would combine art with geek; a convention catering to toy designers, toy collectors, artists and art collectors, highlighting everything from signings with pop-surrealist artists such as Travis Louie and Kathie Olivas to a Star Wars inspired group art show.

This year’s presentation includes 10,000 square feet of art exhibits, exclusive toys, pop culture goodies, plush toys, prints, sculpture and art ranging from fine to urban; also featuring over 200 toy, art, and apparel vendors including Bad Juju, BAIT, Kidrobot, Circus Posterus, DKE Toys, Mighty Jaxx, Super7, Skullastic, 3DRetro, October Toys, STUDS, Munky King, Toy Art Gallery, The Loyal Subjects, Dragatomi, Trampt, Color Ink Book, Giant Robot, Mr. Toast, Paul Kaiju, and many more.

Highlighted art shows include the 99 Deaths Of Jar Jar group show presented by DKE Toys and the STUDS LEGO Art Show featuring dozens of original LEGOTM art creations curated by Brandon Griffith.

About Jennifer K. Hugus

Jennifer K. Hugus was born at a very young age. At an even earlier age, she just knew she would one day write for the LA Beat! Having grown up in Massachusetts, France, and Denmark, she is a noted fan of Asian Cuisine. She studied ballet at the Royal Danish Ballet Theatre and acting at U.S.C. in their prestigious BFA drama program. She also makes her own jewelry out of paints and canvas when she isn’t working on writing absurdist plays and comparatively mainstream screenplays. Jennifer would like to be a KID when she grows up!
