Our beguiling and wondrous city is most famously known for being the epicenter of the movie and TV industries. Accordingly so, Los Angeles has all the trimmings available to cater to everything to do with spinning the illustrious web of movie magic- from costume houses to special FX facilities to some pretty offbeat cottage industries that flourish because of their uniqueness. Most are tucked in warehouses on quiet little streets with plain façades. Driving by most have no idea that worlds of wonder and adventure can be found inside.

This Offbeat L.A. column was started in February 2013 and the very first article was on an amazingly bizarre horror-themed prop house in Burbank called Dapper Cadaver. Read here: dapper-cadaver-props-from-the-darkside

Now over 40 articles later, Offbeat L.A. has decided to take you on another surreal video adventure, led by yours truly, Nikki Kreuzer. First we visit a very eclectic prop house in downtown Burbank called Bischoff’s Animal FX which has been around since the silent film era. They specialize in taxidermy animals for use in movies. Then we go back to where it all started and re-visit the spectacular Dapper Cadaver… Enjoy!
