This weekend, CSNY, Keith Richards, The Rolling Stones, Robert Plant, Blondie, and more will be at Stax Of Wax Records in Malibu this Saturday.  Does this sound too good to be true?  Not if you’re a fan of Henry Diltz’s photography.  This Saturday from 12 to 3pm, world-renowned photographer Henry Diltz is going to be signing and selling copies of his magnificent photos.

Henry Diltz practically invented the art of album cover photography, with over 400 covers to his credit, but beyond that he has shot some of the most intimate, classic portraits of just about everyone you’ve ever loved in rock music.  A few days ago, I wrote about Eric Burdon and The Animals and how they were a seminal part of the British Invasion.  Henry Diltz is to photography what The Beatles and The Stones were to rock music, a massively talented legend.  This exhibit is open to the public and Henry will be there in person, so if you’re interested in owning a piece of the rock pie, you don’t want to miss this.  Whenever Henry is present, you never know who might show up.

I was there at his last exhibit, Bernstein, Diltz, and Nash at Largo, and the show was just incredible.  Sure, you can go online and buy from The Morrison Hotel Gallery, but there’s nothing like being present, seeing the photos in person, and chatting with Henry.  Diltz founded The Morrison Hotel Gallery in 2001 along with Peter Blachley and Richard Horowitz, and the gallery has been providing Los Angeles with some of the most exquisite, intimate events in the history of music.  They were joined in 2012 by photographer Timothy White who founded the gallery in The Sunset Marquis hotel, a place that is very close to my heart, and features quite prominently in all my rock fantasies.

I interviewed Henry back in 2015 and his stories are just as wonderful as his photos.  It’s like a living history lesson.  You can read that interview here: Behind The Lens With Henry Diltz and Pattie Boyd.  Henry’s work is like a dictionary of music….

Thanks for your kind words, Ivor. I remember seeing you at Stax of Wax but I didn’t realize you were the writer whose work we admired so much previously. So many faces, so many names…know what I mean? Any way …thanks from Henry.
