The Pita Pusher

Staring at a long line of food trucks at an event, you sometimes catch yourself thinking, “Fried…fried…greasy…too many carbs…can’t eat that…can’t eat that either.” Vegan? No problem! Halal? No problem! Low carb? Diabetic? Kosher? The Pita Pusher has got you covered! Cue the theme from Mighty Mouse.

The Jerusalem-born Evan Benlian is a charmer and serves up extremely juicy, flavorful shawarma that is a relief from the deep-fried gutbusters that yes, we love, but only on occasion. The natural tendency of any true Angeleno is to compare it to Zankou, but this is a whole different mix of spices. Armenian and Israeli shawarma are a whole different animal. The Greek salad was fresh and did not skimp on the toppings. The hummus tempted me to load up on the pitas, but my goal was to lighten up the carbs. Next time I’m trying the tempting falafel pita.

Sorry, but the first one ain’t free.
