Walking with Purpose

The most fun you can have walking with over 7,000 people on a Sunday afternoon.

The Third annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk was last Sunday October 30th.   The Skechers Foundation and Friendship Circle raise money for education and children and adults with special needs.  This year over 7,200 participants helped raise over $520,00 for these causes.  Donations are still coming in, so the final amount remains to be seen.

I had a blast just skipping about, cheering people on and snapping their photos.  I got to see Lions, Wizards, Unicorns, Spinners, Tutus, Cheerleaders, Poops (preferred organization of positive students), Ladies with fish hats,  Swat teams, Birthday boys, Rainbow shoes, Dirt bag dudes,  Athletes, Parents, Poodles, Princesses, Pumpkins, Babies in wagons, People passing out candy, I met many, many teenagers being awesome.

I had a wonderful time and the entire event restored my faith in humanity- if only for a weekend.  When the 7 thousand people left- there was hardly any garbage on the strand to speak of.  Not bad folks!  Let’s do it again next year!

The Winners!

About K.P. Rennie

I am President of The Fun Zone; The Center for the Study of Funism. I can not confirm or deny my involvement in certain random acts of guerrilla chalk art. I will admit to trying every day to anonymously do something nice for someone- anyone. When I write about food, it's because I can't help myself. I love food as much as the next guy, I only write about food I find myself obsessing on. When it comes to book reviews, I only write about books that I am inspired to read more than once, so my book reviews aren't about new releases that I liked, they are about tried and true books that I LOVE. I favor quirky stories, inspirational memoirs, and real life drama. There are many movies and books that I have enjoyed more than once. If you liked any of these, we probably have similar taste- Books: Peter Pan, Choke, A Life Without Consequences, Fight Club, The Adderall Diaries, Lets Pretend This Never Happened, The Glass Castle, Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, Wild, The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Just Kids, Movies: Little Miss Sunshine, Seven Psychopaths, Ghost World, Pulp Fiction, Hook, Big Fish, Reservoir Dogs, Moonrise Kingdom, Being John Malcovich,

Hey, Karen, I like this article! Short and sweet, and great at pointing out the fun spirit of the event. Your article should be used to drum up participation for this event next year – it gives people such a positive point-of-view, which folks need once in awhile. THANK YOU!!!
