The Taste: Field to Fork

Gazpacho was the order of the day at LA Times’ The Taste this afternoon. One of our favorites was an heirloom tomato and watermelon. Another big hit was Ray’s and Stark’s pork belly with watermelon. Maybe watermelon was the order of the day? Or maybe peaches?

Rocio’s Moles de Dioses made a good showing with a fantastic empanada that was so good I kept eating it even as it burned my mouth. Quail breast from the Blvd. was just stunning. Red O made a refreshing tuna ceviche, surprisingly the only one of the day. Avalon brought us an exciting fried avocado.

Our Health Editor, Marga, would have been pleased with some of the healthier options like Ombra’s faro salad. Lexington Social House grilled peaches and Canele served a mixed bean salad. There was even a green Italian salad. On the opposite end of the spectrum, longtime favorite Good Girl made a buttery and flaky O’Henry peach handpie and Valerie Confections had a delicious basil panna cotta.

Try to make it down to Paramount Studios tonight for “Cocktail Confidential.” Chef Fiorello of Terranea Resort tells us he is going to roast a whole goat.
