The inaugural Norco Horsetown Brew n’ Que Festival got off to a great start Friday night, as guests lined up to have their pictures taken and books and aprons signed by Myron Mixon and Big Moe Cason, stars of Destination TV’s BBQ Pitmasters and BBQ Pit Wars. While that was going on, some delicious appetizers were circulated with a BBQ theme. The menu was designed by Chef Clifton Lee Van On and dishes were prepared by the students of the Art Institute of California, Inland Empire. Snake River Farms generously donated all the meat used on Friday night. Some of the highlights were pork belly and grits, tiny meatballs with wasabi mashed potatoes and some delicious beef shoulder sliders

Annella Kelso, whose company, Snake River Farms supplied the meat for Friday evening and whose meats are very popular on the barbeque circuit, then gave an introduction to Myron and proceeded with a question and answer period with him. One of the announcements Myron made was that his new cookbook, Barbeque Rules, will be coming out July 11 in conjunction with a new TV show, also called Barbeque Rules on Destination America TV. Myron also said that the hardest category for him was brisket because it is the biggest challenge for him since he has the least experience with it, but also that it was also his favorite because of the challenge.

As last night’s festivities came to a close, many of the guests who are also competitors in Saturday’s competition headed over to ‘Barbeque Village’ to begin setting up to cook their competition meats. Pork shoulder, beef brisket, pork ribs and chicken are the categories to be judged. If Saturday’s competition is as much of a success as Friday’s VIP Meat and Greet was, Norco’s Horsetown Brew n’ Que Festival is off to an excellent start.
