Coming up this weekend is the 2nd Annual Big Bite Bacon Fest. Due to popular demand, the event this year has been expanded to both Saturday and Sunday sessions. Last year’s favorite Chef Rick Garcia of the Dia de los Puercos Truck will be there, but this year Chef Rick is also mentoring the youngest chef at the event, Chef Isaiah Rosario. Chef Isaiah, at age 16, is in charge of his own truck at the event, the FryFry Truck, but he will also be working with his mentor, Chef Rick. I caught Chef Isaiah for a few minutes to interview him about the Big Bite Bacon Fest.

Q: How’s it feel to be the youngest chef at the Big Bite Bacon Fest?

You know, it’s pretty good and I’m competing with all these great chefs, but I’m also using this as an experience.

Q: What special dish are you making for the Big Bite Bacon Fest?

I’m making a Deep Fried Bacon-stuffed Twinkie. It’s a Twinkie that has bacon and it’s fried–you don’t have one every day!

Q: What’s your attraction to fried foods?

Everything fried tastes so good. And it’s pretty easy to make, but if you make it good, it can be really great.

Q: You must be excited to be working with Chef Rick Garcia………

I am excited! He works on the truck with us and it is really a blessing to have him helping me out and having him as a mentor.

The FryFry Truck has been open for 13 months. We serve Carne Asada Fries, Chicken wings, Gourmet Burgers, Quesadillas and deep-fried desserts such as deep-fried Nutella, deep-fried PB&J, deep-fried Twinkies and Oreos.

Q: Do you have any bacon treats on the truck also?

We used to do a hot dog inside a Twinkie—–with bacon. It was a fine thing that we did!

Q: What do you think of the Queen Mary?

I think it’s really cool how you can go on a historic ship and do a Bacon Fest—-it’s really cool!

Q: So you’re happy to be at the Big Bite Bacon Fest?

I’m really looking forward to serving the Big Bite Bacon Fest with Chef Rick Garcia of Dia de los Puercos. It’s really a blessing. It really is!
The Big Bite Bacon Fest will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 1 and 2, 2015 at the Queen Mary’s Events Park. In addition to the vast quantity of bacon treats available, there will be 15 breweries with delicious beer and many other treats available. General admission tickets are available, along with VIP tickets that include early admission and much, much more. Last year’s event was a sold out success and with this year’s twice as many sessions, everyone will be able to get some great tastes of some baconlicious treats. Fans of Bacon, this event’s for you!
