The Annual Dyke Day LA Beer Bust & BBQ Fundraiser Blowout!

Cassils and MW serve up the dawgs!

Motorcycles revving out front. A constant stream of dykes of all genders and other queers filing into The Eagle bar in Silver Lake. Volunteers taking in donations at the entry and offering raffle tickets. Leather play inside for those inclined. All of this took place last weekend at this fundraiser to support the larger Dyke Day LA picnic, now in it’s 12th year, which takes place during pride month on June 8. Because of this fundraiser and other community support, the picnic is able to take place with no entry fees and no coporate sponsorship. Both the fundraiser and picnic are now annual traditions that the Los Angeles community looks forward to every spring and early summer.  Here are just a few of those that showed up to celebrate community and support Dyke Day LA.

About Judy Ornelas Sisneros

I am a native Californian, born and raised in Bakersfield and eventually escaping to San Jose then San Francisco where I spent every free moment in punk and post-punk culture spaces before heading to LA permanently in 1989. I have also spent major time as an AIDS and queer street activist, which today along with my passion for punk/alternative music still informs my personal and social life. I love photography, film and playing punk/post-punk stuff on the bass. My LA Beat contributions are usually photos that give a glimpse into the vibrant art and music scene that makes Los Angeles such an amazing city to live in today.

  1. I love this post! It really captures a sense of fun and community that the general public doesn’t always see.
