LA Beat Presents at the Redwood Bar: Charlie Don’t Surf

and I think he shouldCharlie Don’t Surf from Venice, CA will be playing the first FREE, all ages, LA Beat Presents concert, along with The Fast Sails (yours truly) and headliners Mike Watt’s Dos, on Jan. 29 at The Redwood Bar.  The three-piece previously known as known as Finland Station play fun, upbeat punk/rebel rock with satiric and political lyrics.  Just listen to “Worst President Ever” at the link above and you may simultaneously crack up and start pogo dancing.

Their shows include classic and obscure covers of The Clash, Ramones and Misfits songs as well as originals from the group’s two Finland Station albums: Eastern Bloc Party  (2006) and Fat Accompli (2010), and new tracks from their upcoming first release as Charlie Don’t Surf, which is tentatively titled Back in the CCCP.

Featuring current members LJ Scott (guitar/vocals), Scott Brown (bass/vocals) and Freddie McCullough (drums/vocals – also in The Fast Sails), Charlie Don’t Surf is a well-crafted love letter to the ‘glory days of classic British and American punk’.  LA Weekly’s Falling James has described their songs as “enjoyably rude, old-school punk rock rants”, and they have opened for such groups as Mike Dirnt’s The Frustrators and The Carpettes.

Looking forward to the show!  Here’s the line-up:
