Simply Iconic: Black Folk Artists at La Luz de Jesus Gallery

Selected works of seven self taught Black American folk artists works are on display at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery now through October 3, 2011. Those artists, each of them self taught, are Sam Doyle, Purvis Young, Herbert Singleton, Roy Ferdinand, Charlie Lucas, Sulton Rogers and O. L. Samuels. Most of these artists have pieces which are part of the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The pieces on display are from the collection of Gordon W. Bailey. The show presents a chance to see these southern artists’ work up close and personal without having to travel to Washington, D.C.
