La Estrella is a chain, or rather two separate chains, of taquerias and trucks run by two brothers. There used to be a rumor that the two La Estrellas were the result of a divorce in which one spouse got the fish recipe, and the other the pastor We are assured by the employees that it is two brothers, but if that tale had been true, the side that got the pastor made out in the deal. The tacos come with an adobo-style sauce that packs a huge wallop of flavor when mixed with salsa. Their pork is also shredded instead of chopped up into tiny, hard nuggets. It simply does not get any better.
Most rockers are familiar with the La Estrella on Figueroa, down the street from Mr Ts Bowl. The La Estrella truck on York is from the same, uh, pastor crew? bunch? The truck is especially charming because it is up on blocks and even has a well-lit sign up on a post. It is a permanent edifice that just happens to be mobile, kind of like your uncle’s double-wide. You have to balance yourself on a wooden pallet to pick up your tacos. It’s a taco adventure! Seriously, though, no one can beat these tacos al pastor. No one. And they are open 24 hours! Score!
