OK, technically it’s in Burbank. Corner Cottage on Victory has been feeding hungry locals breakfast for as long as I can remember. The wait is anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes, but at least they warn you and swiftly take the orders, so you can go run a few errands and come back instead of standing in a line around the block. Another caveat, CASH ONLY.
Most mornings the little cafe is stuffed with blue collar workers fueling up for a long day ahead. And they are all there for the same thing — the famous breakfast burrito.
The perfect order is, “Bacon and sausage burrito, half potatoes with salsa.” Almost everyone orders some variation on that theme. The regular burritos are stuffed to the gills with potatoes, so unless you are a carb fiend, it’s best to go halfway. They also have ham and steak burritos, which pass muster, but it’s the magic combo of fatty sausage and crispy bacon that make this burrito special. the tortilla is warm and soft, and the salsa is like liquid fire. It is tightly wrapped so you can eat it on the road without any spillage.
I don’t know how the workmen head off for a long day’s work, because after one of these pork, fire and grease bombs, all I can do is lie down for a nap.
