Chinese New Year’s Treats

We are finally winding down the 2 week celebration ushering in the year of the dragon. Luckily, you can enjoy Chinese treats and candies all year long. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any White Rabbit candies — chewy milk candies with an edible rice paper wrapper.

There was a bonanza of treats though, from the milky cherry hard candies to the not-too-sweet soft and chewy “brown sugar” snacks. Lychee jelly is like the name, jello-ish, but like delicious jello. My favorites involve sesame. You have probably had sesame candy.

Sesame cookies have an interior like edible styrofoam, fun to crunch. The drinks are sweet and fruity and milky, like a peach horchata. For a beer snack, try the anise-scented sunflower seeds. They are addictive.
