DoLab, the people behind Lightning in a Bottle and the stage creations at Coachella bring you an exciting show this weekend at the Palace Theatre in downtown LA. According to DoLab, it will be ” an edgy fusion of street art and performance art set to incredible live music and electronic production.” The performance collective, Lucent Dossier, will be performing “against a live backdrop of the famed internationally-acclaimed Berlin street art duo Herakut. There also will be an after-party in the theater with special guest Low Riderz on Friday and Imagika Om on Saturday.”
What is Lucent Dossier? I looked up their webpage and discovered “Lucent Dossier Experience is, at its very core, a playground for the innovative genius child in all of us. It is a collective based on magic and inspiration, living by the ancient wisdom of choosing confidence over doubt, joy over pain and love over fear.”
Still puzzled, I delved further, and discovered the event is an extravaganza of aerialists, contortionists, French-style clowns and other performances. The costuming is a lush take on a silent film Mata Hari and 1940s burlesque queens. To the outside observer, it appears to be Cirque du Soleil with a Jim Rose Twist. While perusing the performances, I came across a new one for me, “Dirty Babies.” And so the mystery continues to unfold.
