Mother Moo Creamery

If you ever find yourself in Sierra Madre, run, don’t walk to Mother Moo Creamery. In fact if you are in Pasadena, or Glendale, or even Downtown LA, get your ass over to Mother Moo stat.

Open a mere 7 months, Mother Moo already has a loyal following of locals who flock to her whimsical country shop for the most reasonably priced luxury ice cream around. A single scoop is only $2.75. and 3 scoops are only $4.50.

Owner Karen Klemens started canning first before graduating to ice cream, and you can still find her jams and preserves for sale in the shop. Ice cream tastes are offered using real spoons, and you almost feel as though you are in a neighbor’s kitchen.

Karen seems to have learned intense flavor infusion during her years canning, because the ginger, the rosewater and the strawberry explode with pure flavor. Her chocolates are particularly rounded out, with brownie and orange dreamsicle with chocolate nearly knocking me off of my seat. One of the truly fun ice creams is Cornflakes, which tastes like it was made from the milk floating at the bottom of the bowl. But the flavor people clamor for is the salted chocolate. Enough with the salted caramel, my loyalties have veered. Salted Chocolate is made with 3 kinds of chocolates, making it deep and complex.

So grab a friend and ten bucks and point yourself in the direction of Mother Moo Creamery. You will not regret it.
