September 28, 29 and 30th the HP Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon will take over downtown San Pedro. Films will be screened at the Warner Grand, where there will also be a small bazaar. Besides Lovecraft, the festival celebrates cinematic horror and weird tales as seen through the eyes of both amateur and professional filmakers.
For fans of The Re-animator, they will be showing a clip of The Evil Clergyman with Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, & David Gale. Also on the schedule is Southpark’s “Coon” trilogy, and Macabre Fantasy, a live-action performance in the style of an old radio serial complete with Foley effects!
There are scads of extracurricular activities, including dinner Friday night at The Whale and Ale (Might we suggest the fish & chips?), and a LARP (Live Action RolePlay) revolving around a mysterious statue pulled from the depths of Pedro waters.
You’re on your own with the CthulhuCon. I can barely spell it. Tickets for the entire weekend are only $27 and even less for day passes.
The Whale and Ale will be having special full dinner or selected entrees at a reduced price if you make a reservation 5-7pm and that includes the fish and chips. But you must tell them that that you are attending the event.
There is also a Saturday Brunch ticketed separately which includes gift bags, trivia contests and general mayhem. Read the Con site Events page thoroughly for all the related activities and events.
Oh, and feel free to say Hello to me (Lori Nyx) at the oils and author table at the Bazaar, especially if you want a dab of Eu de C’thulhu.
That perfume sounds like it’d be a bit fishy. đ
OH here’s the you tube trailer preview for some of the films at the fest: Check it out
