Jesse Billauer should have been a professional surfer. His surfing career was blossoming when, in 1996, he sustained a spinal cord injury while surfing a local beach. His neck may have been broken, but not his fight and spirit to live, live well! As the Life Rolls On Foundation, founded by the Billauer family, puts it: “We believe life after spinal cord injury, indeed, “rolls on,” so we’ve created incredible programs that push the bounds of possibility.” As a demonstration of that fighting spirit, within three years, Jesse Billauer was back in the ocean, surfing again using adaptive equipment. “Life Rolls On is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for young people affected by spinal cord injury and utilizes action sports as a platform to demonstrate the infinite possibilities beyond paralysis.” As a non profit, it raises funds for its numerous program. Step in, Lola Paige, a fashion up start up!

LOLA PAIGE is a lifestyle vintage beach brand looking to launch their newest collection of retro vintage clothing, accessories, and hand bags! The Lab and Lola Paige saw the LRO foundation as the perfect fit for fund raising activities.  The Sugar Spun Carnival combined fundraising, fashion and music for a fun evening at the Lab!

Actor, Activist Tiffany Giddes was the guest speaker at the event.  After a 2001 car accident cause her to have to give up use of her legs in exchange for a pair of wheels. Getting through rehab, and already mentoring others like, she became an activist for people with spinal cord injuries. Nor was she ready to give up her passion for athletics: she loves to surf, ski, skydive, drive ATV’s, scuba dive, anything that gets her outside.  Upon finding out about the Life Rolls on Foundation, she became an active member.  In praising the work of the foundation, and participating in their “They will [insert sport here] again” programs, Tiffany says: “To be able to get back to doing ‘normal’ things after a horrific injury may seem mundane, but to a person who has who lost every other ability in their life, being able to enjoy feeling the rush of a wave for thirty minutes, there are no words. LRO is a truly magical organization. It has the ability to bring people of all “walks” of life together.”
