Indulge Me: Personal Favorites from 2012

As we breeze through December in our 65 degree weather, we find ourselves inundated again with Year-End Lists. So here is one more! (At least this one probably won’t be followed by angry comments about what was left out.) Here are some of my favorite things from 2012 (or that I finally got around to in 2012):

Albums:

Grimes – Visions
You Won’t – Skeptic Goodbye
Bat for Lashes – The Haunted Man
Marina & The Diamonds – The Family Jewels (2010)
Purity Ring – Shrine
Tame Impala – InnerSpeaker (2010)
Emel Mathlouthi – Kelmti Horra
First Aid Kit – The Lion’s Roar

Books:

Graceling by Kristin Cashore (2008)
Carmilla by J.S. LeFanu (1872)
Illuminations: A Novel of Hildegard von Bingen by Mary Sharrat
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James (1898)
The Twenty-Year Death by Ariel S. Winter
Ulysses by James Joyce (1922 – okay I skimmed the last section, because – Jesus! – but I really enjoyed most of it.)

Movies:

Brave
Prometheus
The Descendants (2011)
50/50 (2011)
Donny Darko (2001 – yes, I JUST saw this. I don’t know why I’m so late.)
The Woman in Black
A Better Life
The Avengers
Bestseller (2010)
*Others I imagine I’ll add to this once I see them: Looper, Silver Linings Playbook, The Hobbit
