I still have vivid memories of watching this clip of Peaches and Herb singing their soft-soul uber-hit “Reunited” on the old-fashioned variety show Solid Gold ’79. Watch the action in the above clip at the 2:00 mark; if the intent to sin is actually equivalent to committing the sin, as we used to hear in church, then consider this pornography for imaginative pre-teens at the dawn of the eighties. Between Pink Lady’s cameltoe-cam dance numbers and the regular appearance of Peaches And Herb performing and making out on some TV show or other, it was an interesting time to come of age.
Assuming that audiences will be of similar mind on the couple of days after Valentine’s Day, expect to see a lot of spontaneous stolen kisses in the seats around you – hopefully even your own – during Love Affair 2013, a two-night, ten-band extravanganza of slow-dancing heaven that includes such baby-making-sound-producers as Gene Chandler, Deniece Williams, Ray, Goodman & Brown, and my personal favorite of the lot, the Persuaders, creators of “Thin Line Between Love And Hate” as covered by the Pretenders. And of course, Peaches and Herb themselves, who hopefully still have that X-rated chemistry after three decades of acting out their love on a nightly basis.
Hot 92’s Love Affair 2013 With Peaches And Herb, Heatwave, Gene Chandler, Deniece Williams, The Superbs, Ray, Goodman & Brown, the Escorts, Barbra Lynn, Skip Mahoney and the Persuaders. Gibson Amphitheater at Universal Citywalk, February 15-16, tickets $25 to $65, available from Live Nation.
