Forget Valentine’s Day next week – it’s Mardi Gras on Tuesday! In lieu of the spectacular floats, daquiris and King Cake we’re missing, here are a few options for L.A. revelers:
Long Beach has two, fantastic-sounding carnivals on Saturday – Shoreline Village Carnival for a traditional Fat Tuesday affair and Rainbow Harbor Carnival for a Venetian style event. Both are free!
Amoeba Records has its annual Mardi Gras event on Tuesday, starting on 2pm, which includes DJs, live music from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and an actual Second Line Parade following the band out the door.
The Pig N’ Whistle in Hollywood has a Phat Tuesday Pub Crawl starting at 5pm.
The Federal Bar in Noho is serving up boiled crawfish, jambalaya and even beignets through Tuesday, on which night the swamp-rock band Catahoula plays.
The Farmer’s Market’s annual festival, featuring the Mutti Gras Pet Parade & Costume Contest, starts today and runs through Tuesday.
HM157 (historic Horace P. Dribble house) in Lincoln Heights has a vegan Mardi Gras feast on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
Olvera Street has a festival on Tuesday with Mexican and Caribbean music, parades, costume prizes, the burning of “bad Spirits” and the crowning of Miss Olvera Street.
Lure Nightclub is hosting the 29th Annual Brazilian Carnaval with giant screens playing footage from Brazil’s Carnaval, DJs, Miss Brazil, Capoeira acrobats and more.
New Orleans Cajun Cafe in Hermosa Beach has a celebration on Saturday with a zydeco band.
