Last Monday night – with the help of Jimmy Kimmel – Sir Paul McCartney shut down Hollywood Boulevard to promote his new album, New, which drops October 14. McCartney played three songs from New, two of which were broadcast on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The rest of the songs from the free, hour-long set were, as McCartney himself told the 10,000-strong crowd lining the boulevard, “just for you.” He then launched into several Beatles’ and Wings’ classics including “Junior’s Farm,” “Day Tripper,” “Let It Be”, “Jet,” “Birthday” and “Back In The U.S.S.R.” As the concert wound down, a high-spirited Sir Paul encouraged not only the fans in front of him (some of whom had been queuing for several hours for coveted front-row spots), but those watching from windows and rooftops spanning the block to join in the sing-along as he delivered the knockout punch of “Hey Jude” before exiting the stage.
