The second annual LA Puppet Fest begins April 1st and offers 25 events of puppet-featured entertainment and education, across Santa Monica, Hollywood, West Hollywood and West L.A. This year’s participants includes Puppet School, Heather Henson’s Handmade Puppet Dreams (Jim’s youngest daughter – how cool can one family be??), the famous Bob Baker Marionette Theatre, LA Guild of Puppetry, Sock Puppet Theater, the Skirball Center and much more.
The opening event is the April Fool’s Puppet Ball at Micky’s in West Hollywood and it will include performances from Puppet School, a costume contest, music from DJ Eric de la Cruz, and more. It starts at 7pm and is $15, 21+. Tickets for all events (some are free!), including VIP packages, are available at www.lapuppetfest.com.
I’m interested in “The Devil You Say”, pictured above, not the least because that puppet looks so dapper: “Simmering wars, violent revolts, manmade and natural disasters, cries of Armageddon…Who bears the responsibility – God? Satan? Someone else? In ‘The Devil You Say,’ Old Nick takes the stage, in person, to mount his defense – or to prove who is really to blame. All using words and sayings attributed to him by some of History’s greatest writers: Goethe, Marlowe, Byron, Punch and Judy.”
