Movie Review: We Are The Best

I am a first generation Punk Rocker. I am a tough audience. I cannot even sit still in a chair; it feels like punishment. However, I just saw a subtitled movie that was too cute for words called, “We Are The Best !”

It is a coming of age film set in Sweden in the late 70’s revolving around 3 preteen girls who are becoming punk rockers. Sweden looks cold and you can really feel it as the girls trudge from here to there on the path to Punkdom, meeting boys, learning their songs, and playing their first gig.

“If you don’t annoy the the adults, you are not doing something right” was our motto and this movie truly captures that emotion. The plot is so good you can tell it’s every young person’s rebellion, finding oneself and who one’s friends are, separating oneself from one’s peers, and finding your own path to happiness. Watch these girls grow not only up but into themselves. This is a great film and I intend to see it again.
