Eager to get a jump on the Halloween season? Well, the stars are in alignment and the Great Old Ones have heard your prayers! L.A. horror theatre troupe, The Visceral Company, is previewing an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu” at The Lex Theatre this weekend.
From the twisted minds that brought us last season’s highly acclaimed, Lovecraft: Nightmare Suite, this production is directed by L.A. Weekly Theater Award winner, Dan Spurgeon and is adapted and performed by NY Drama Desk nominee, Frank Blocker. Blocker plays all of the characters from Lovecraft’s most well-known story: each caught up in the mystery of an ancient, frightful idol of the alien god Cthulhu, the cult that worships him–and the doomsday his awakening will bring.
Puppetry and stagecraft are sure to enhance an atmosphere of dread and impending madness, but if that is not enough to entice you to get your creep on, the performance also features a ritual designed to summon Cthulhu himself! Black robes and tentacles optional.
H.P. LOVECRAFT’S “THE CALL OF CTHULHU” runs Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm from September 26 through December 7, 2014 at The Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave., Hollywood, CA 90038. Parental guidance is recommended for young children.
Preview tickets are $10.00. Starting 10/3/14 tickets are $20.00 ($15.00 with online discount code). For tickets and information go to www.thevisceralcompany.com.
