happy 2015 everyone! on the last day of 2014 I took this shot of the soon-to-be former gerald desmond bridge from here in my pedro town, shooting across from terminal island which is where this bridge connects long beach to. even though it went up in 1968 (there was a pontoon one before when I arrived from virginia the year before!), it’s now both falling apart and not big enough for today’s can boats (container ships) so there’s a replacement proj going down right now to switch out the lame for better we’re all hoping… might even get done by late 2017. comparing this to the bridge on the l.a. side, the vincent thomas bridge which links terminal island w/my pedro town – just shows to go you: build it right, build it once.
