The second annual Eagle-Con will be held at Cal State L.A. on May 14 and 15, presented by the Art Directors Guild. A convention designed to “explore issues of race, gender, orientation, identity, and representation in comic books”, Eagle-Con 2015 follows the theme of “Engineering the Future”, and will feature concept art, set designs, and designs for gadgets, vehicles and more from movies like Disney’s upcoming “Tomorrowland”, “Thor: The Dark World”, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, “Batman Forever” and “Tron”.
A panel of Guild artists who specialize in designing concept cars (such as the one at left by Matthew Cunningham) will be held in the Student Union at 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 14. The featured artists will be Harald Belker (“Total Recall”), Patrick Von Janicke (“After Earth”), Tim Flattery (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) and Karl Stahlendorf (“Star Trek Into Darkness”).
The convention, which takes its name from Cal State’s Golden Eagles, also boasts this year a cosplay Masquerade, a video game tournament and Guest of Honor actor Kevin Grevioux (“Underworld”). Tickets for non-students are $15 a day or $25 for both days.
