7,000 special needs athletes representing 177 countries have descended on Los Angeles for the 2015 Special Olympics Games. Leading up the opening ceremony and games, various towns around Southern California have played Host Town to the athletics, coaches and volunteers. I have family ties to the Bahamas and thus jumped at the opportunity to escort athletes to the Orange County fair compliments of the Host Town, Costa Mesa.
The opening ceremonies are Saturday July 25, 2015 at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The honorary chairs of the Games are President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Governor Jerry Brown serving as Honorary Hosts. The Opening Ceremonies will feature entertainment by Stevie Wonder, Avril Lavigne, O.A.R., Cody Simpson, Nicole Scherzinger, J Balvin, Becky G, Siedah Garrett, and Cassadee Pope. Tickets to the opening ceremony are available at Ticketmaster. All other events are free and will be at various locations around the Southland. Come out and root these very special athletes on to victory!
