The 7th Annual Edwardian Ball returns to the Fonda Theatre on Saturday, February 27, 2016, re-imagining the turn-of-the-century through the sinister, yet whimsical filter of illustrator Edward Gorey. Guests will enjoy live music, theatre, art installations, fashion and cosplay, black comedy, ballroom dancing, absinthe cocktails, a vendor’s bazaar, parlour games, and alluring sideshows.
The Edwardian Ball is presented by co-hosts Rosin Coven and Vau de Vire Society. “Each year, The Edwardian Ball presents a featured Edward Gorey tale in an original stage performance. This year’s event takes a unique turn, with Edwardian Ball founders Rosin Coven teaming up with longtime collaborators Dark Garden Corsetry in an operatic presentation of Gorey’s ridiculous tale, “The Stupid Joke.” In addition, “co-hosts Vau de Vire Society present a series of vignettes throughout the evening paying homage to the most controversial works of the (in)famous illustrator… guaranteed to pop corsets and ruffle coattails!”
The event is not a purist’s interpretation of the Edwardian era, but the result of a whimsical play on words. The theme combines Neo-Victorian and Edwardian-era gothic, macabre circus, and steampunk aesthetics to create an eccentric and festive celebration of the art of Edward Gorey. Of course, half of the fun of this kind of thing is dressing up. Take your inspiration from this melange of styles and get creative!
