‘Twas the night after Guns N’ Roses and all through the Strip, Everywhere we looked the 80’s were hip
We thought we’d take a look at the Tower Records installation, and to our surprise, no one was there except for us. it had been a madhouse only the day before. People were buying tickets for 10 dollars each, and scalpers were getting up to 3 thousand dollars for the tickets. You could only purchase one at a time.
Inside the museum we encountered bits and pieces of GNR history. All of their gold records were on the wall. T’shirts with their ancient designs, posters from that era, flyers from times that were the 80’s. Slash’s top hat was on display, as were Duff McKagan’s leathers and Axl’s boxing outfit. The installation also included their MTV awards, GNR pinball machines, and a real live pay phone which one would use to score drugs back in the ancient days of yore.
Graffiti was everywhere, and there was a bar with no booze. The place was set up like a movie set. It was only open for 3 days — the day they built it, the day they sold the tickets, and the day they were taking down the promotion. We arrived on the last day; gee, we felt lucky. The GNR museum will go on tour with the band on their upcoming dates.
No, we didn’t go to the show but we had all the glamour…if you want a taste of glamour, check out their tour dates and our photo essay after the break.
