Kathleen Hanna, the frontperson for Bikini Kill, Le Tigre and Julie Ruin had to take a sabbatical from the stage in 2005 due to an extreme case of Lyme disease. Anyone who has seen The Punk Singer is aware of her struggles, and also of her badass musical chops. Her post- Bikini Kill band, Julie Ruin, performed live in 2010, and came out with the album “Run Fast” in 2013. The band will be releasing an album titled, “Hit Reset” in July. Today the first video from the upcoming album was released.
“I Decide” follows Waxahatchee frontperson Katie Crutchfield striding confidently through downtown Austin during SXSW while the song’s lyrics appear onscreen. Hanna’s voice isn’t as ferocious on this song as on some of her early hits. It’s a little bit sing-songy and teasing, but still determined and confident. The insistent drums keep it all together as the guitar occasionally wanders off noodling. The band will be performing this summer at The Panorama Fest in NYC and The Wrecking Ball festival in Atlanta this summer.
