This week, a video of 90-year-old Dick Van Dyke and his a capella group The Vantastix serenading patrons of a Santa Monica Denny’s with “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” has garnered over 800,000 views for Cindy Rohrbrough, who uploaded it to YouTube on Friday. The video is not marred by any chatting or clanking dishes, and a sweep of the room reveals the entire restaurant standing transfixed as they hold up their phones. The Vantastix had just finished appearing on Good Day LA to promote their new children’s album, Put On A Happy Face, and an upcoming appearance in Cerritos.
The quartet started out in 2000 at a Malibu coffee shop singing children’s songs, theme songs and standards “just for fun.” Soon they were performing at charity events and making special appearances playing TV theme songs at The Hollywood Bowl and performing the National Anthem for the NBA Playoffs. Of course, their most popular songs have been from Van Dyke’s acclaimed musical career.
The Vantastix will perform at The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday afternoon, August 28th. Tickets range from $65 to $85. Buy your tickets here.
