If you are a dedicated carnivore wanting to attack a meal with unbridled lust, unashamed and in your glory, have we got the event for you! Chef Neal Fraser of Redbird is reviving the Beefsteak, a celebration of gustatory delight that has not been seen for over 70 years. Once again Chef Fraser, along with Matt Selman, Cort Cass, Eric Wareheim and Amy Knoll Fraser will bring the historic feast to Vibiana, perhaps the most beautiful event space in LA.
In the late 30s ” A rite of gluttony” called the Beefsteak was held in saloons and halls. “The menu was always the same — sliced steak served on toast, au jus or gravy, and all the beer you could drink. Knives, forks, plates and napkins were forbidden.” Unfortunately the Beefsteak fell out of favor and died out after World War II. (Mitchell, Joseph. The New Yorker “All you Can Hold For Five Bucks” (1939).
The feast commences at 8pm on February 18, 2017. The regular ticket ($175) includes all you can eat and drink. There will be a special cocktail hour starting at 6:30pm for VIP ticket holders ($275). In keeping with tradition, formal attire is required. The menu is a surprise, as is the entertainment. Vegetarians will be accommodated, but might not enjoy the spectacle. If you ladies sense a whiff of cigar smoke and leather, ignore it – women are welcome at the table. All Proceeds to Benefit LA Food Bank.
