The Pacific Opera Project (POP) begins its 2017 season this Friday at the Highland Park Ebell Club with Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love”, imaginatively set in a 1950’s soda shop, sung in Italian with English supertitles and presented with orchestra.  POP was started in 2011 to mount accessible, affordable, entertaining shows in the hopes of expanding opera’s audience in Los Angeles and increase its profile in popular culture.

“The Elixir of Love” is the most famous of Donizetti’s comic operas (known as opera buffa), and tells the tale of Nemorino, Adina, a legend and a love potion.  Written in the bel canto style, there are ample opportunities to enjoy the performers’ voices, both solo and multipart.

Performances are February 10, 11, 14, 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 8pm. General admission tickets are available for $20 each, or table seating (with a bottle of wine and snacks) is available for $65 for a table of two and $120 for a table of four. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.pacificoperaproject.com or by calling 323-739-6122.
