The ever elusive Childish Gambino treated Adidas fans to a special surprise headlining performance this past weekend at An Event in Basketball Culture at the Adidas 747 Warehouse St,Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17, 2018.
Amongst all the excitement and creativity, workshops and Maker lab, exclusive drops and raffles – no one was prepared for the entertainment of the night.
An already exciting lineup with Playboi Carti, 21 Savage, and Lil Uzi Vert, fans knew Adidas had to top it. The first unannounced headliner was Kid Cudi, who was briefly introduced by Kanye West. Just recently introduced back to the spotlight, Kid Cudi really enjoyed himself on stage. He performed a good mix of classics and new hits from “Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin'”, and even performed “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” off of Kanye’s hit album “The Life of Pablo.”
Shortly after, they began setting up the stage for a band. “Childish Gambino” flashed across the screens and darted away. Fans began squirming and pushing to the front. Gambino appeared in a smoky haze, and reminded fans to simply enjoy the music and try to stay away from phones and cameras.
Backed by haunting vocals and performing ridiculously high falsettos, Gambino made an entrance that was highly appreciated. He ran through a wide list of songs – with a mixture of “Awaken, My Love!”, “Because the Internet,” and “Kauai” with special emphasis on “The Worst Guys,” “Sober,” “Redbone,” and “3005”.
Although given an audience grade of “6/10” by Gambino, it was clear that everyone in the warehouse event thoroughly enjoyed his performance. Gambino himself is not a fan of performing live, so this performance was truly a treat to Los Angeles.
