Music, Good Food, and Fine Whiskey to Fundraise at Santa Monica’s Museum of Flying

You might not be Learning to Fly, but there will be flights all the same at Los Angeles Magazine’s 3rd Annual Whiskey Festival sponsored by Infiniti at Santa Monica’s Museum of Flying today, Thurs, March 15, 2018.

Master distillers will dispense sips of the finest labels of whiskey from 7:30 p.m. To 10:00 p.m. On-pour will be experts from distinguished Whiskey brands such as Angel’s Envy, Copper Lounge (in InterContinental Hotel), Basil Hayden, Bowmore, Cutwater Spirits, Duncan Taylor, Edrington, Four Roses Bourbon, Glen Morey, Jura Whisky, Kikori Whiskey, Knob Creek, Laphroaig, Rebel Yell Bourbon, Shackleton Whisky, The Macallan, Whistle Pig, Yellowstone and more.

Prior to the event, Britanny Martin at Los Angeles magazine compiled some whiskey tasting tips from Glen Morey’s master distiller, Graham Coull that can come in handy.

“Sniff Before You Sip…Your nose knows what you want in a whiskey. Before you gulp it down, give the spirit a sniff. If you like the smell, chances are pretty good you’ll be happy with the taste as well. However, if your nose burns a bit from the alcohol, it’s a good sign that you might want to add a few drops of water to your dram.”

At the event, mixologists will share recipes featuring several of the nearly two dozen whiskeys, and a curated menu will be provided by Tres LA to compliment the whiskey.

Although the night’s menu is a surprise, Tres LA is known for truly elegant fare such as Angus Beef Mini Burgers with Maytag Blue Cheese, basil aioli, and arugula, Mini Fried Chicken & Waffles with coriander slaw and sage honey, Crispy Potato Cake with Duck Confit and sour cherry compote, or a Caviar on Truffled Scented Potatoes with crème fraîche.

Per their website, guests at the Museum of Flying can “explore an array of aircraft, aviation-themed exhibits, aviation memorabilia, artifacts, and aviation art” while Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers cover band Petty Theft lends music to fit the theme.

In addition to the entertainment, an interactive photo booth, once again sponsored by Gearys, will top off the evening. Los Angeles magazine’s past events have featured Mad Men-themed living room, photo booths and a “mashed potato bar” that layered said spuds and toppings into a martini glass.

Proceeds from this evening will go to Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles, the magazine’s philanthropic partner on this event. A ticket of $95 includes all food, cocktails, and can be purchased here with sales ending soon! Call for details on tickets or for more info at Los Angeles magazine at 323-801-0100. All attendees must be 21 years or older. Free parking is available at the Museum of Flying at 3100 Airport Avenue in Santa Monica.
