Celebrate Juneteenth at these Free, Family-Friendly Events Around LA

Bring picnic blankets and spend the afternoon at the California African-American Museum (CAAM) with DJ sets by Francesca Harding and family activities like a Freedom Drum Circle Workshop with Rene Fisher Mims, quilting, making family trees, and creating ancestor masks. Bring clothes to enhance with paint, stencils, at the Wearable Art Workshop with Bijan Machen. The event is from 1:00 pm To 4:00 pm and is presented in partnership with LA Commons in conjunction with the Festival of Masks.

From 10 AM until 6 PM today and tomorrow, June 15 and 16, 2019, Black Arts LA will host its 10th annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival in Leimert Park. The festival celebrates Juneteenth, which takes place on June 19th and commemorates the day in 1865 that the last slaves in America were finally freed, which, you should know, is not the same day as the Emancipation Proclamation. The City of Carson Annual Juneteenth Rhythm & Blues Celebration will take place today, June 15, 2019 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm at Mills Memorial Park in Carson. Enjoy Classic Cars, Food,Fun Games for the kids and live entertainment from DW3, Greg Rose, Barbara Morrison, Sophisticated Dance, and Pastor Prentiss E. Lewis and the Greater Starlight Victory Band.
