I had a wonderful time with Prince Mario-Max Prinz Zu Schaumburg-Lippe at the Hollywood Christmas Parade on Sunday. This is our third year reporting on this great tradition. I first went with my grandparents when I was six years old, and I am still just as fascinated by it! Prince Max was reporting for Astro Royal Hollywood, and of course I was reporting for the LA Beat.
There were the usual drill teams and marching bands, plus Korean dancers and Scottish pipe bands. There were even storm troopers from Star Wars! This is Hollywood, so naturally there were celebrities. I saw my friend Ian Buchanan from General Hospital, and Shawn Wayans from the Wayans Brothers and In Living Color. The cast of Rock of Ages performed music from their musical, which is currently playing at The Bourbon Room. and classic cars from Star Cars were on display. Some of the giant balloons being wrangled were the gingerbread man, a giant toy soldier, and the the pirate from Scientology. Word has it that Scientology runs the entire parade, and the announcers did talk about L. Ron Hubbard’s books. Santa still ends the parade every year.
I also had many friends from the old school filming the parade, like Video Bob from the Lingerie and gal pal Debbie. We were greeted by one of the parade organizers, Jeff Papes, who left his hospital bed to make sure things went smoothly. Both Prince Max and I received awards from the City of Los Angeles for our work in the community, and we are proud Hollywoodians here in the City of the Stars!
